'Sherlock' actor Benedict Cumberbatch tipped for villain role by tabloids

26-Sep-2012 • Spectre (2015)

According to a sketchy article in the Daily Express this week, British actor Benedict Cumberbatch may be being lined up to play a villain in the next James Bond film after "Skyfall" - Bond 24.

The paper's Day & Night column, which has since been repeated by churnalists across the media, claimed a source told them: "Benedict is considered perfect Bond villain material. Work on the next film will begin next year and the plan is for Benedict to be on board. He grew up watching Bond, so it would be a childhood ambition fulfilled. Playing a Bond villain is one of the plum roles in film history and he'd jump at the chance."

Benedict has seen his star rise dramatically in recent years having won plaudits for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the hit BBC series set in the present day.

He will next be seen on the big screen as the baddie in the next Star Trek film and as the dragon Smaug in the forthcoming trilogy of Hobbit films.
