'Skyfall' earns $33m in its first day on American release

10-Nov-2012 • Skyfall

The reports are coming in from Friday's "Skyfall" opening across the US and Canada, and the numbers are as astounding as the European figures we have been charting this fortnight.

Opening across 3,505 screens, Daniel Craig's third adventure as 007 has already collected $33m at the "domestic" box office. This surpasses both "Quantum of Solace" and "Casino Royale", as they earned $27m and $14.7m respectively during the same 24 hour period.

Although it is still early to say for sure, it is being predicted that 007 will give Batman a run for his money, when statisticians compare opening weekend tallies for "Skyfall" and the box office success, "The Dark Knight Rises", in just a couple of days.

Meanwhile, despite some mixed reviews coming out of the US papers, the critic aggregator Rotten Tomatoes has "Skyfall" holding steady in a 90%+ approval rating.
