'Skyfall' wins battle of the holdovers at US box-office this weekend

It was going to be a tight race, but the new James Bond film "Skyfall" has come out on top in its fifth week of release against fellow holdover movies "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" and "Lincoln" - both of which were released after 007.

Although "Skyfall" dropped 34% on last weekend, it still took a solid $11m from the three-day weekend in USA & Canada to bring its total 'domestic' haul to $261.6m.

"Rise of the Guardians" took $10.54m in second to beat "Twilight"s $9.2m in to third place.

The only major new release was Gerard Butler starring rom-com "Playing for Keeps" which flopped to #6 with only $6m.

Sony's 2012 best domestic release is "The Amazing Spider-Man" ($262m), which "Skyfall" will defeat tomorrow.

But is unlikely to beat Sony's all-time record holder "Spider-Man 3" which took $336m domestically. Although it has already easily passed the web-slinger's worldwide record ($890.8m), with "Skyfall" breaking the $900m barrier this weekend to $918.22m globally.

"Skyfall" added an estimated $31.3m from all territories this weekend.

"Skyfall" is also the first movie to regain #1 spot in its 5th week on domestic release since "How to Train Your Dragon" managed the feat in April 2010.
