Die Another Day shakes and stirs European box office

22-Nov-2002 • Die Another Day

Yahoo News are reporting how "Die Another Day" has smashed opening day records in the UK:

"Die Another Day" notched up $2.07 million Wednesday in the U.K., including advance screenings, beating the combined first-day tallies of 1999`s "The World Is Not Enough" (which made $1.07 million with sneaks), 1997`s "Tomorrow Never Dies" ($606,000) and 1995`s "GoldenEye" ($213,000). The earlier Bonds bowed on a Thursday.

The Lee Tamahori-helmed action-adventure also minted $1.2 million Wednesday in France and $573,000 in French-speaking Switzerland, both comfortably ahead of the most recent 007 entries.

"We`re delighted," said Fox Intl. theatrical president Scott Neeson, whose firm is releasing MGM`s epic overseas.

Neeson projects the latest installment will earn a stellar $11 million in its first five days in Blighty.

"The World Is Not Enough" grossed $233 million internationally. Confident the follow-up will do even better, Fox is shooting for a total north of $250 million.

The film`s talent, who attended the royal premiere in London last Monday, will visit the major European cities as well as Japan and Australia to promote the picture.

Brosnan and Berry attended the German premiere in Berlin on Wednesday 20th Nov 2002. Berry later received the `Bambi` award from the German Media.
