DAD special effects fail to prove quantity is better than quality

10-Jan-2003 • Die Another Day

"Die Another Day" featured over 600 special effects shots, compared to only 150 in the previous 007 adventure "The World Is Not Enough", but they failed to impress the Oscar nomination jury.

Yahoo report that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences on Wednesday revealed its f/x and sound editing selections, but Bond was not among the blockbusters.

The seven films nominated for the categories were "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", "Men in Black II", "Minority Report", "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones", "Spider-Man", "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" and "XXX".

The Moving Picture Company, who were commissioned to produce the bulk of the computer generated imagery for "Die Another Day", were nominated for their work on "Harry Potter".

THe CGI used in "Die Another Day" has come under attack by a large proprtion of fans, the most criticised element being teh CGI surf sequence which featured the first ever computer generated Bond.
