Pierce Brosnan has not signed for Bond 21 yet - false rumours spread from misread AP article

14-May-2003 • Casino Royale

Despite fansites reporting it as fact, Pierce Brosnan has not signed for Bond 21 (or an option for Bond 22) yet.

A piece from German Associated Press has been misread as Brosnan signing for Bond 21 with an option for Bond 22. This is not the case.

The article confusingly refers to a quote Brosnan made after signing his original 3-film and fourth option contract ("I believe, six times James Bond and then stop, that would be cool.") straight after mentioning - what would be his fifth film - is currently a work in progress.

There is no confirmation Brosnan has signed for `Bond 21 along with an option for Bond 22` as some sites are reporting.

The headline `Pierce Brosnan wants to play still two times Bond` (translated) got fans hopes up about Bond 21 news, but the majority of the Associated Press article is a look back over his career as Bond so far - in anticipation of his 50th birthay later this week on Friday 16th May.

Brosnan wants a fifth, but no contract has been signed for Bond 21 yet.

Brosnan reportedy earned $15m for "Die Another Day", the fourth film option on his original contract. He is yet to sign for Bond 21, although producer Barbara Broccoli has publicly stated the role is his as long as he wants it.

The only actor confirmed for Bond 21 so far is John Cleese, who signed a 3-picture deal before "Die Another Day".

Thanks to Freddy and Stefan for the intel.
