`Quantum of Solace` US weekend box office lowered to $67.5 mln

18-Nov-2008 • Quantum Of Solace

James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace" saw its opening weekend ticket sales lowered to $67.5 million on Monday from a record $70.4 million estimate one day earlier, according to film studio estimates - reports Reuters

The revised total for "Quantum of Solace" is still a record opening in the U.S. and Canada for a movie about the British super spy. It beat the debut of "Die Another Day," which earned $47.1 million in its first weekend in November 2002.

The new Bond also topped the opening weekend total of $40.8 million for 2006's "Casino Royale," which marked the debut of actor Daniel Craig as the suave secret agent, and it exceeded industry pundits' forecast of a debut around $60 million.

"Quantum of Solace" already has been a huge hit overseas, raking in more than $250 million in about two weeks in international markets.

The film is billed as a partnership between Columbia Pictures, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and closely held Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. Columbia oversaw production, marketing and distribution, and MGM has ancillary rights such as DVD distribution.
