David Arnold comments on Thomas Newman 'Skyfall' composer news

10-Jan-2012 • Skyfall

Five-times James Bond composer David Arnold has taken to Twitter to comment on the (now official) news that Thomas Newman is taking over scoring duties for the upcoming adventure "Skyfall".

Although the press release mentions Arnold's involvement as Musical Director for the London 2012 Olympics, he debunks this as the reason why he is not on-board this film.

"I've known since June....Sam [Mendes] and I talked about it and I said I am very much of the opinion that a director should have who they want and fully expected Tom to be doing the film."

Newman and Mendes have been regular collaborators in the past.

On the subject of the news itself, and his silence since the story broke last week, Arnold said: "Couldn't tweet about it as contracts weren't finalised until recently...but it's all very good. I'm looking forward to watching Skyfall as a fan. First time in 14 years! Still working with Eon on 50th anniversary stuff..exciting."

"I always said I would do them as long as they ask. If they ask for next one I will do it."
