Daniel Craig`s home town Chester may get Casino Royale regional premiere

05-Sep-2006 • Casino Royale

Talks have begun with the film company behind the latest James Bond film to try and persuade them to hold a regional premiere in Chester.

Casino Royale, which stars Chester-born and Wirral-raised Daniel Craig, is set for release later this year - reports icChesire.

And tourism chiefs in the city hope to take advantage of their sudden link to the world's most famous spy by getting a special screening in the historic city.

While there is no doubt that the main UK premiere will take place in London, it has yet to be decided where regional premieres will take place.

The plan being put forward is for the film to be screened at Chester's Odeon cinema.

North West Vision, which is responsible for promoting the region to film companies across the globe, is spearheading the campaign. Emma Well, from North West Vision, said: "We are still in talks with the company.

"Our head office is dealing with it and we are hoping to find out in the next couple of weeks."

Chester City Council tourism development officer Gerald Tattum has played a leading role in trying to get the James Bond franchise to open the film in the city.

He said: "As far as I know we have asked North West Vision to secure it for us, and it said it would be in negotiations with Bafta and Daniel Craig's agents.

"The Odeon has its 70th birthday this year and, with Daniel born in Chester, it is a double reason to celebrate. If we get it, it will make Chester a very special place during November."
