`The Spy Who Loved Me` clapper board up for auction next month

22-May-2007 • Collecting

A clapperboard used during the filming of James Bond’s The Spy Who Loved Me, starring Roger Moor and released in 1977, is expected to sell for between £10,000-12,000 in the regular quarterly sale of Music and Film Entertainment Memorabilia at Cameo Auctioneers, Berkshire and online at www.the-saleroom.com on June 5th, 2007.

This is the 30th Anniversary of the movie, the 10th in the Bond series and widely regarded as the best of the seven Roger Moore films. The production was directed by Lewis Gilbert (who also worked on You Only Live Twice and Moonraker) and photographed by Claude Renoir, grandson of the painter. For the first time a 007 stage was built on the back lot of Pinewood Studios in England to house the innards of a huge supertanker which kidnaps three nuclear submarines – at the time the largest motion picture sound stage in the world.

The clapperboard was used extensively in the film's production, identifying all the main unit sequences shot at Pinewood in 1976 and 1977. It still carries the hand-written date from the final day of main unit filming, 26th January, 1977 and the Rank Film Laboratories cardboard contrast chart attached with gaffa tape to the back. It is sold with a framed picture showing the clapperboard on set & various Screen International articles about the film.

A second clapperboard, used for Special Effects on the film is also included with an estimate to £8,000-10,000. Both are offered for sale by a technician who worked on the film.

Other highlights include a photograph of Elvis Presley the night he died (£200-300), a guitar used by Prince on stage in Las Vegas (£4,000-8,000) and a US one sheet poster from Die Another Day signed by Madonna, Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Judi Dench, and Rosamund Pike (£250–300).
The sale is being held at Cameo Auctioneers room in Berkshire but bidding can also be taken over the internet by pre-registering with www.the-saleroom.com where all the lots can be viewed through the online catalogue.
