`The Man From UNCLE` DVD release news

04-Jul-2007 • Collecting

After several years of "maybes" 60’s cult TV show The Man From UNCLE is finally heading to DVD. Cinema Retro this have got the following update:

Cinema Retro has just learned some exciting news about the UNCLE DVD set: it will be released this fall and will be available only through Time Life, which will market the set as it did for Get Smart! This means the entire series will be immediately available and sold in one large box set. The advantage of this is that fans won't have to worry that the fate of subsequent seasons depends upon the sales of the first season. As we reported some weeks ago, studios are stranding collectors by not releasing series beyond their first or second seasons if sales are weak. All of the UNCLE episodes will be available in one set.

We can also confirm that Robert Vaughn and David McCallum will appear on the set in new interviews, conducted separately and together. McCallum, who is a regular contributor to Cinema Retro's print magazine, will also be donating his UNCLE home movies for the set. We also believe that other prominent figures from the series are participating in the DVD edition, including directors Richard Donner and Joseph Sargent and writer Dean Hargrove. Additionally, well known scholars of the show will be featured.

Time Life, working in conjunction with Warner Bros, will release all 105 episodes through a direct response marketing plan. This means the set will not be available in stores for at least a year. This plan proved highly successful in the marketing of the Get Smart! boxed set that contained the entire series.

More details as they become available. As always, we do not report rumors, but wait until stories are confirmed as fact.

Closing Channel D.

Thanks to `CR` for the alert.
