James Bond continuation novel `Devil May Care` finds a publisher in Russia

10-Feb-2008 • Literary

MI6 previously reported that publishers in Russia had turned down the prospect of releasing the upcoming James Bond continuation novel "Devil May Care" in the country due to low projected sales. More recently, the Russian publisher for Charlie Higson's Young Bond series stopped after the second novel in the five-book series due to lack of demand in the country.

Azbooka Publishers have taken up the mission to promote 007 behind the old iron curtain and will release Sebastian Faulks' novel later this year.

Founded in 1995, Azbooka is the largest publishing house in Saint Petersburg and one of the three Russian major publishing houses. Each year Azbooka releases over 10 million copies of books in more than 100 series and individual projects. Many of Azbooka’s projects have been awarded prestigious professional prizes and honours. Azbooka’s publishing activity is mainly focused on Russian and foreign classics, contemporary Russian and foreign fiction, children’s books, illustrated dictionaries, reference books on history and art.

Among the authors who are exclusively published in Russian by Azbooka are Vladimir Nabokov, Milan Kundera, Patrick Süskind, Milorad Pavic, Janusz Wisniewski, Erlend Lou, Diane Setterfield, Michael Bond, Brian Jaques, and many other outstanding writers.
