First edition `Live And Let Die` found in bag of charity donations

24-Sep-2009 • Collecting

Staff at an Edinburgh charity shop proved to have a golden eye for spotting a real gem when they found a rare 007 first edition in a bag of donations - reports The Scotsman.

The Oxfam Morningside bookshop staff spied the first edition of Ian Fleming's Live and Let Die in a bin bag.

The novel was Fleming's second book and is estimated to be worth £600 to £800.

It will be auctioned at Bonhams in Oxford on 29 September.

The bookshop has received several valuable donations over the years. Last year a first edition of From Russia with Love raised £300 and staff are hoping that the auction of Live and Let Die will be even more successful.

Bookshop manager Andy Crosby said: "007 seems to bring a bit of luck to our shop.

"We don't know who donated the book but I would like to thank them very much for their extremely generous donation."
