Rachael Stirling talks about her ill-fated screen test for 'Casino Royale'

05-Aug-2018 • Casino Royale

Before the world got to discover Eva Green with her breakthrough role as Vesper in the 2006 James Bond film 'Casino Royale,' director Martin Campbell tested some other actresses for the part.

It has long been known that English actress Rachel Stirling tested for the part of Vesper, but she has not talked about the experience, until now. Stirling is the daughter of Dame Diana Rigg, who played James Bond's ill-fated wife in the 1969 film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service.'

Over afternoon tea in central London, the Stirling told the Radio Times why she didn’t get a Bond-girl role in Casino Royale in 2006: “I was in India when I got the call."

"The next thing I knew I was in a car on my way to audition with Daniel Craig. And I had Delhi belly. I’ve never felt less like a Bond girl!”
